Brain tumor symptoms depend largely on which part of the brain the tumor is set. Keep in mind that while these symptoms usually occur, individuals are unique, so the severity will vary.

Tumor Induced Headaches

These headaches can occur anytime but usually the most severe is in the morning, sometimes strong enough to wake the person. As the day goes on, the headache will dissipate.

In some instances, the headache will disappear when the person vomits. The headaches get worse when the person suddenly changes position or coughs. These headaches do not respond to ordinary medication.

Seizures

One of the most common brain tumor symptoms is a seizure. Around 1/3 of the people afflicted with the disease experience it. This is caused by disturbance in the brain’s electrical flow. Seizures lead to convulsions and loss of consciousness. These seizures may be accompanied by unusual smells, tastes and a tingling sensation.

Memory Problems and Mood Swings

Short term memory loss is another indicator. There are also problems with speech, becoming confused and inability to concentrate. Personality changes can occur as well. This can be caused by the tumor or when the tumor starts affecting the brain components that manage personality.

Mass Effect (IICP)

This is brought about by intracranial pressure as the tumor grows. As the mass increases, brain tissues get damaged. Brain tumor symptoms include vomiting, blurred vision, double vision and nausea. If the medical checkup reveals a swollen optic nerve, it is a sign of the mass effect.

Tumor of the Brain Stem

If this part of the brain is struck, the most common signs are vomiting upon waking up and difficulty walking. Muscles on one side of the face get weak, resulting in one sided smiles. One will experience difficulty in swallowing. Other signs are slurred speech and double vision.

Tumor of the Cerebellum

The earliest indicator is a ringing noise in the ear. Advanced brain tumor symptoms include deafness and loss of sensation on the face.

Tumor of the Frontal Lobe

There are no early symptoms for this type of brain tumor. During the advanced stage, the signs will include impaired judgment, one-sided paralysis, memory problems and seizures. There will also be an urge to urinate more often. If the tumor is at the lobe base, the sense of smell will be reduced or completely eliminated.

Tumor of the Occipital Lobe

This part of the brain is involved in the recognition of visual images. The symptoms are blindness, seizures and other forms of visual impairment.

Tumor of the Parietal Lobe

If this area is affected, the signs are language disturbances and loss of ability to read. One also loses the ability to perform manual calculations.

Tumor of the Temporal Lobe

A tumor in this section of the brain will affect ability to discern sounds and vision.

When any of these brain tumor symptoms are experienced, one should see a doctor immediately. A regular checkup with the doctor will ensure one identifies the symptoms early on and gets the appropriate treatment.
